The University of the Philippines recently hosted AI Horizons PH ’24: Conference on AI-Powered Research and Innovation, a two-day event held at the UP BGC on October 24-25, which explored AI's transformative potential in critical areas of Philippine society and the economy. The conference brought together experts, policymakers, and innovators to discuss AI's impact in four key themes: food security, education and governance, materials and energy, and health and wellness. As the first Philippine university to establish an AI framework, UP, led by President Angelo Jimenez, underscored the principles of transparency, accountability, safety, and meaningful human oversight as essential to harnessing AI’s potential.
